At the start of the pandemic covid-19 caused a rise in Netflix subscribers due to making us all remain at home with a need for entertainment. Whether the pandemic has been a positive or negative thing for Netflix is debatable with the swarm of subscribers stopping as fast as it had arrived. Subscribers began to slow at the end of the second quarter during the pandemic.

Netflix did not manage to reach its goal of six million subscribers and failed to do so by 2 million at the time. Since then, there has been a slow increase which has led to show a rise by 8.8 million net worth subscribers by the end of this quarter this year.

We also discovered that Netflix’s rival company amazon prime lost subscribers during the start of the pandemic where Netflix was gaining them. They are the third biggest streamers in the Uk and are constantly trying to outdo Netflix with better shows and movies.

The rise in subscribers may be due to a huge following of shows such as squid game and arcane which have both appeared on Netflix this year and taken off. Squid game ranked at first place globally for twenty-nine days. The Asia region contributed 2.2 million subscribers this quarter and making the highest global contribution to Netflix’s numbers. However, it is still one of the smallest markets for Netflix overall with the highest market being the USA and Canada with 74 million paying subscribers in the last quarter.
